The man moved along the coast in search of the perfect diving site.
Suddenly, his attention was drawn to a strange white object in the distance. Approaching, the diver realized that he was looking at a giant squid four meters in size.
Daniel planned to meet up with his brothers, Jack and Matthew, to spend the weekend diving together. All three brothers also took spearfishing equipment with them, but plans had to be changed.
The brother pointed to something near the ocean and asked what it was.
“We decided to check and found a large squid,” Daniel later said.
Up close, it became obvious that the squid was larger than any of his relatives. They brought a tape measure from the car, and it turned out that the length of the squid exceeds 4 meters.
The biologist of the local maritime university reacted to the photo (the brothers posted the find on the net). According to him, a representative of Architeuthis sp. was found on the shore, and not one of the largest.
“These creatures grow up to 13 meters. And the guys most likely found a young representative of the species,” the biologist said.
The squid has already been sent to New Zealand’s National Water Research Institute for detailed study.
