Someone threw away this old bedside table, but I stumbled upon it and decided to give it a second life 😍 Three weeks later, it turned into a stunning piece of furniture that now looks brand new 💖 Here’s the result 👇👇👇.
I noticed this bedside table while passing by a dumpster, quite by chance.
Its condition, to put it mildly, left much to be desired: the varnish was scraped off in places, the finish was cracked, and greasy stains had become part of its history.
However, its vintage design fascinated me. It found its way into my garage, where it stayed for almost a year until I decided to give it a new life.
The first step was to remove the glass doors – they were too flimsy and didn’t fit the overall vibe of the room. I then cleaned the surface and doors, stripping away the old waxed paint.
The project took a lot of time, and at first, I thought the bedside table was too damaged to be restored. The surface was covered in stains and cracks, and bringing it back to its original state seemed almost impossible.
However, the wood grain was so beautiful and unique that I couldn’t cover it up. So, I decided to preserve it at least on the surface by applying two coats of oil.
The finish began to shine again, and I felt it was just the beginning.
I reinforced the back of the table with small nails to prevent it from collapsing during the work and coated it with a clear oil to protect the old wood from further damage.
The doors, which I initially thought of painting, made me hesitate. The blocks of different colors looked confusing and incomplete, as if something was missing.
But when I decided to repaint them, I realized the fronts would become too uniform, and the entire piece would lose its charm. That’s when I remembered old traditions.
These details, so typical of Romanian furniture from the last century, fit perfectly with the overall style.
The finishing touch was the handles. I took a lot of time choosing the right ones because they needed to harmonize with the design and complete the piece.
Once I installed them, the bedside table was transformed.
Now, it’s like new.
