But I had a clear vision of what I wanted 🎯. Little by little, with plenty of ideas and a bit of work, this simple 1960s apartment 🏢 was transformed into a true haven of French charm 🇫🇷.

When she first moved in, she found a space marked by damaged walls, greasy ceilings, and an outdated interior. Yet, with a bold vision and a good dose of creativity, this apartment has become a charming and elegant retreat.

A Love for the Ramenki Neighborhood

I’ve always loved this area. I used to live in a studio in the neighboring building, but I wanted more space. Naturally, I chose this two-room apartment from 1961—a real renovation project. My goal: to turn this space into a stylish and functional cocoon.

Renovation Choices: A Blank Canvas to Fill

The first step? Tearing everything down. The walls were so crooked that it would have taken up to 10 cm of plaster to straighten them! I opted for plaster and gypsum blocks—thin but sturdy—to create a fresh start.

What changed in the layout:

• I opened up the kitchen and living room to create a more fluid space.
• I turned part of the bedroom into a spacious walk-in closet.
• The bathroom was enlarged for added comfort.
• And the entryway? I gave it a functional yet elegant touch.

A Blend of French Style and Modernity

I was inspired by French style, with a touch of modernity to avoid clichés. Here’s what gives the space its unique charm:

• Wall moldings that add depth and elegance.
• French doors—classic yet timeless.
• Delicate chandeliers in every room for a cozy ambiance.
• 220 cm-high doors for a refined and imposing look.

To create a cohesive ambiance, I carefully selected interior design references and made sure everything blended harmoniously.

The Finishing Touches: Chic and Practical Interiors

• The walls are painted in neutral tones to make the space feel larger.
• Laminate flooring in the living areas adds warmth and comfort.
• I chose tile for the entryway and bathroom—both stylish and practical.
• And of course, underfloor heating in functional areas for optimal comfort.

Optimized Storage: Every Centimeter Counts

To keep the space uncluttered, I opted for smart storage solutions:

• A 5 m² walk-in closet for perfect organization.
• Built-in entryway closets to maximize space.
• A bed with a lift-up mechanism for extra under-bed storage.
• Functional, well-designed kitchen cabinets.

Bold Ideas to Personalize the Space

I also made some daring choices to add a personal touch:

• The French balcony: I demolished the old window ledge and installed a wrought-iron railing, creating a small summer lounge area.
• The kitchen: I chose glass doors to separate the space without making it feel cramped, a compact dining table, and carefully selected lighting for a welcoming atmosphere.

Small Challenges Along the Way

Not everything was perfect from the start. Installing the entryway doors required some adjustments, and I had to add trim pieces to ensure a perfect fit. Choosing the right gold hardware for the bathroom was also tricky—gold tones can vary significantly from one model to another!
