🤔 Thought throwing away your old furniture was the only option? 😱 Think again! Discover how, with just a simple chair left behind by the previous owners, we created a unique designer piece. 💖 👇 Read on to uncover this transformation secret. 👇
If you have old furniture, like chairs, don’t rush to throw them out. You can absolutely give an old chair a second life yourself, without any special tools. Plus, the final result will match your expectations perfectly, and a one-of-a-kind piece like this is often impossible to find in stores. Give your old furniture a second chance—they have so much to offer!
Materials needed:
• Sandpaper
• Cardboard
• OSB sheet or thin plywood
• Foam
• Padding (Sintepon)
• Velvet fabric
• Hidden trim tape
• Spray paint
• Spray adhesive
Step 1: Disassembly and Preparation
Start by taking the chair apart. Remove the upholstered parts from the frame and strip off the old covering. If the frame is metal, it’s essential to remove the old paint. Use coarse-grit sandpaper for this step. Once done, apply a fresh coat of paint.
Step 2: Creating Templates and New Parts
Using paper and cardboard, design a template for the seat and backrest. Let your creativity flow and experiment with different shapes!
Transfer the template onto an OSB or thin plywood sheet and cut out the corresponding seat and backrest pieces. Also, cut out foam pieces slightly larger than these shapes. Glue the foam onto the cut pieces, folding the edges to create a smooth, even surface.
Step 3: Upholstery
Wrap the prepared pieces with padding (Sintepon). Choose a high-quality fabric (velvet is recommended here). Cut the fabric with enough margin, then wrap it around the pieces and secure it at the back using a staple gun.
For a clean and seamless finish, use hidden trim tape to cover the staples—this makes the process much easier!
Reassemble all parts of the chair and admire the unique furniture piece you just created!
Don’t forget that you can customize your chair however you like. Shape and color can vary endlessly! This transformation project is both exciting and inspiring.
