PART 2 — The Discovery Behind the Beehive
When the small door finally opened, a strange smell drifted out from the opening.
I leaned forward slightly… then froze.
Behind the door was a tiny space hidden between the walls of the house. An old lamp was still hanging from the ceiling. On the floor were a chair, a dusty blanket, and several metal boxes carefully stacked on top of one another.
But what immediately caught my attention was at the back of the room.
An old leather bag.
I opened it carefully. Inside were photographs, yellowed letters, and several documents bearing different names.
Then I found a photograph that made my blood run cold.
It showed a man standing in front of this very same house… several decades earlier.
On the back of the photograph, a date had been written: 1978.
And just below it were a few words:
“If anything happens to me, look behind the bees.”
I immediately stepped back.
That’s when I realized I probably wasn’t the first person to discover this room.
Without touching anything else, I called the police.
An hour later, two investigators arrived at the house. They carefully examined the hidden space and the documents.
One of them remained silent for several seconds before asking me:
“Did you find everything exactly like this?”
I told him yes.
He exchanged a look with his colleague.
Then he explained that the name appearing on several of the documents belonged to a man who had been missing for more than forty years.
According to their initial research, his disappearance had never been solved.
The police then searched the entire house.
And inside the wall behind the hidden space, they discovered something even more disturbing: a second compartment containing a watch, a wallet, and a letter that had never been sent.
The letter was addressed to the police.
It simply said:
“I know who made me disappear. But if you’re reading this letter, it means I didn’t make it out of this house alive.”
The investigators immediately opened a new investigation.
As for me, I never set foot on that roof again.
