😲 😲 Honestly, I had been putting off this project for ages. Redoing my dining room chairs? Yes, the idea had been in my mind… but the thought of tackling it on my own scared me a bit. I’d never really done upholstery myself, just helped my mom from time to time. So naturally, I was apprehensive. But one day, I just went for it! 😊 😊
Today, I’m revealing the result of this transformation and, most importantly, I’m going to explain how I did it. If you also have chairs that could use a little makeover, join me on this adventure! 📌 👇 👇👇👇👇
Old chairs… but full of potential
My dining room chairs are classic varnished cherry wood, with that typical orange hue from the 60s-70s.
Luckily, not too flashy, which allowed me to tolerate them for a while without repainting. Louis-Philippe style, they have a certain charm, but they were tired:
• Worn varnish, with suspicious marks in some places,
• Completely sagging seats,
• Velvet fabric in a color… frankly undefinable.
Anyway, they clearly needed a facelift! But their structure was still solid, and they had that little “something” that made them worthy of a little TLC.
Step by step: the transformation
The plan was a complete makeover:
✔️ Painting and patina of the frame for an elegant finish,
✔️ Complete removal of the seat (goodbye tired velvet!),
✔️ Replacing the padding to regain real comfort,
✔️ New upholstery with soft and modern colors.
A project that takes a bit of patience, but honestly, nothing insurmountable! If you have chairs like these lying around, know that it’s totally doable.
And here’s the result: chairs brought up to date, comfortable and stylish! It’s such a joy to see them come back to life after so many years. So, who’s ready to give it a try? 😊”
