“I’m tired of being a luxury nurse…”
Those words still echoed in the warm Riviera breeze when her hands violently sent my wheelchair plunging into the void.
The water closed over me with unimaginable force.
Camila, my beautiful wife, dressed in a stunning bright yellow silk gown, didn’t even turn around to look at the surface of the water. As far as she was concerned, everything had been taken care of: a tragic accident on the pier, a few crocodile tears at the funeral… and then complete control of my financial empire.
An hour later, in the almost clinical calm of our marble villa, she was already savoring her victory.
A message had just appeared on her phone: the transaction was confirmed.
My fortune now belonged to her.
But suddenly, the crash of the massive double doors being thrown open shattered her triumph.
She looked up, ready to scream at the staff.
Her phone slipped from her hands and hit the floor with a heavy thud.
Backlit in the doorway, I stood staring at her.
Seawater was still dripping from my white shirt, forming dark puddles across the immaculate marble floor.
But what froze the blood in my wife’s veins wasn’t simply seeing me alive.
It was seeing me standing… firmly on both legs.
“Impossible…” she stammered, backing away in terror until she hit the sofa. “The paralysis… You couldn’t walk!”
I didn’t say a word.
I simply walked slowly toward her, taking confident steps, a cold smile on my lips.
I wanted to savor every second of that moment.
The exact moment when the predator realizes that, by thinking she had locked her prey in a cage, she had actually locked herself inside it… with the wolf.

Camila remained frozen, unable to take her eyes off my legs.
“You… you could walk the whole time?”
I slowly nodded.
“For eight months.”
Her face crumbled.
I walked over to the desk and placed a small black folder on the table.
“You really thought I knew nothing?”
She opened the folder with a trembling hand. Inside were bank statements, copies of wire transfers, and several photographs. They all proved that she had been planning my death for months with the help of her lover, Victor.
“I discovered your plan long before you pushed me into the water,” I continued. “My supposed paralysis was nothing more than an act. I wanted to see how far you were willing to go.”
Camila stepped backward.
“No… this can’t be possible. You loved me!”
I looked at her without anger.
“I loved you. That’s precisely why I never imagined you could become my executioner.”
She lunged for her phone, but I stopped her with a gesture.
“It’s useless. The police already have all the evidence.”
At that moment, three sharp knocks sounded against the door.
Camila turned pale.
Two investigators entered the villa.
“Camila Moretti? You are under arrest for attempted murder and financial fraud.”
She began to cry.
“I can explain everything!”
I said nothing.
As they put the handcuffs on her, she turned toward me one last time.
“What are you going to do with all that money?”
I smiled faintly.
“Nothing you had planned.”
A few weeks later, the accounts had been fully secured. The assets acquired through fraud were recovered, and Victor was arrested as well.
As for me, I left the villa.
I no longer wanted to live surrounded by marble, luxury, and poisoned memories.
I sold the property and dedicated part of my fortune to creating a foundation for victims of abuse and financial manipulation.
Camila had wanted me dead so she could inherit an empire.
In the end, she lost everything: her freedom, her fortune, and, above all, the trust of everyone around her.
I had gained something far more precious.
The chance to start my life over… without her.
And this time, I no longer needed to pretend to be paralyzed to discover who around me was truly willing to make me fall.
