This strange object is actually an Italian musical instrument! More precisely, a percussion instrument called “troccoli,” once used in Italian folk music. My grandfather explained that these small wooden mallets produced a distinctive rhythm by sliding them over a ridged surface or simply tapping with them. A unique sound, full of tradition.
But then… how did this Italian instrument end up in a French attic?
The story behind this discovery turned out to be as surprising as it was romantic. In his youth, my grandfather had traveled to Italy and ventured into a small village in the south. One day, while strolling through the village square, he came across local musicians playing traditional melodies. Completely enchanted by the atmosphere and the music, he decided to buy this instrument as a souvenir of his unforgettable journey.
