We live in the countryside, in a small peaceful village. My husband works on the farm, and I take care of the garden and the house. His mother, on the other hand, lives in the city with her younger son. To be honest, our relationship has never been good. From the very first day, she looked at me coldly, and her remarks were always sharp. I remained silent out of respect for my husband, and the distance helped: we rarely saw each other.
Recently, she announced that she wanted to “escape the urban hustle” and spend a week with us, claiming she missed us. I immediately felt a bad premonition, but my husband insisted she come.
From the moment she arrived, she criticized every detail: the soup was too salty, the curtains weren’t ironed properly, and she judged the way I was raising our five-year-old daughter. She constantly created tension and sometimes even turned my husband against me. One night, I finally broke down and cried silently, hoping the visit would end quickly.
When she left, I sighed in relief. But the very next day, our sweet and intelligent dog Argo started acting strangely. He growled at the empty garden, paced in circles, and then began digging at a specific spot. He looked at me as if to show me something.
The next day, he did it again. My heart was racing. A dog doesn’t behave like that without reason. So I took a shovel and began digging where he insisted.

Suddenly, the earth gave way… and I found a black bag, closed and tied. Inside was an unbearable smell and disturbing objects: tufts of hair, an old child’s dress that wasn’t our daughter’s, a doll with a broken head… and a small package containing photos of our family, but with the eyes scratched out.
A cold shiver ran through me. It was clearly malevolent. Who could do such a thing? The answer became clear: my mother-in-law. She had been alone in the garden and could have buried the bag while I was busy with our daughter or the house.
I didn’t know what to do. I took the bag to the church. The priest explained that it was a “spell meant to destroy a family.”
I’m not superstitious, but Argo’s behavior, my mother-in-law’s words, and her actions during her stay all took on a sinister meaning.
Since that day, I have forbidden her from coming back. My husband, initially skeptical, was speechless when he saw the contents of the bag. As for Argo, he now sleeps in front of the door, as if to protect us.
I don’t know what her intentions were, but one thing is certain: she will never set foot in our house again.
