💚 Today, I’m thrilled to share a very special project with you: the restoration of an old oak dresser, entirely done by my grandfather! Found in the classifieds, this sturdy but dull 60s/70s dresser was just waiting for a second life. 😊😊 Thanks to his craftsmanship and love for quality work, my grandfather brought back all its character. So today, let me introduce you to the green dresser my grandpa just completed ⬇️⬇️.
Meticulous preparation before the transformation
Before thinking about painting, a thorough preparation was necessary. My grandfather started with a deep cleaning to remove most of the old finish. But to achieve a flawless surface, he took out his trusty sander and stripped the top down to the bare wood. He also sanded the entire structure to ensure perfect paint adhesion.
The drawers, on the other hand, needed some repairs. With all his patience and expertise, he reinforced the fragile parts and filled in the old handle holes to create new ones. A precise job that took time but was well worth it.
A bold makeover with deep green
Then came the most exciting part: adding color! Always meticulous, my grandfather set up an improvised spray booth out of cardboard before applying the first coat of green. But surprise… the color was too light! With his expert eye, he adjusted the shade by adding about 30% black to achieve a deeper, more elegant green. Two more coats later, the dresser was completely transformed!
For a contrasting effect, he applied a walnut stain to the top and finished with three layers of satin varnish to protect it. To complete the look, he selected modern new handles and added decorative paper inside the drawers, giving the interior a unique touch.
🌟 Thanks to my grandfather’s talent and patience, this green dresser has become a one-of-a-kind piece full of character. A beautiful revival, don’t you think? 😊
