That’s exactly what happened to Maria — a devoted mother who never stopped fighting to give her son a better future.
One day, she proved to everyone who doubted her just how wrong they were.
Maria had grown up in poverty. Every day, she fought hard, never complaining, to get through a life that gave her little rest. Despite André’s father being absent, she had a clear goal: to give him the best education possible.
She worked as a cleaner for a cleaning company. Twelve hours a day, no vacations, no breaks. All so her son would have a roof over his head, food to eat, and a chance to go far.
When he was old enough to go to boarding school, she took him there herself, her eyes full of hope:

She often wrote him letters, full of love and encouragement.

— All my life, I have worked. And since your birth, I started saving for your education, she said, looking tenderly at André.
— When you told me you wanted to become a doctor, I thought: “Well, this will cost me twice as much.”
Warm laughter erupted in the room… except from Hugo and Élisabeth, who smiled condescendingly.
Then Maria opened her bag and took out an envelope.
— But sometimes, life works miracles. You got a scholarship. And everything I saved… I hardly needed anymore.

She opened the envelope, took out a key, and gently placed it in the trembling hands of the couple.
