My husband brought a woman home claiming she would be his second wife – to his surprise, I agreed… but with only one rule
A week ago, my husband of eight years, Jack, came home with a young woman named Claire and dropped a shocking announcement: he wanted her to become his second wife.
Yes, you read that right.
At first, I thought it was a bad joke and even laughed, looking around for a hidden camera. But no: Jack was completely serious. He launched into a well-rehearsed speech, explaining that taking a second wife would be “practical.” According to him, Claire was a “hardworking woman, capable of helping with cooking, cleaning, and all other household chores.”
“That way, everything will run perfectly, and it’s still better than secretly cheating on your wife. At least I’m honest,” he added with astonishing confidence.
I stared at him, waiting for the punchline. But there wasn’t one. He actually expected me to applaud his honesty.
Claire tried to keep her composure but carefully avoided my gaze. Nervous or ashamed, one thing was clear: she was complicit in this absurd plan.
At first, I was too stunned to speak. While Jack continued his monologue about what he considered “the best solution for everyone,” an idea suddenly came to me.
“Alright,” I interrupted. “You can have a second wife… but on one condition.”

A week ago, my husband of eight years, Jack, came home with a young woman named Claire.
With a smile on his face, he announced:
— “Amelia, this is Claire… she’s going to be my second wife.”
At first, I thought it was a joke. But no, he was serious.
Jack explained that Claire was “hardworking” and could help with cooking, cleaning, and all household tasks. According to him, this was more “honest” than having a mistress.
I listened, stunned, as he praised the “benefits” of this idea. Claire kept her eyes down, clearly uncomfortable.
Then, an idea came to me. When he finally finished his speech, I calmly said:
— “Alright… you can have a second wife. But I’m imposing ONE rule.”
His eyes lit up.
— “Of course! Which one?”
— “She must never approach my second husband.”
Silence fell.
— “Your… second husband?!”
— “Exactly, Jack. If you can have a second wife, I can have a second husband. Someone who takes me to dinner, gives me flowers, spends time with me when you’re busy… Fair, right?”
He started getting flustered:
— “It’s not the same! In some cultures, a man can have two wives…”
— “Ah, so you only want to follow the tradition that suits you?” I replied.
Claire watched us, frozen, as if she had walked into the wrong house. Finally, Jack told her to leave. She didn’t need to be asked twice.
That evening, he tried to change my mind. In the morning, he came back looking sheepish:
— “Maybe this second wife thing wasn’t such a good idea…”
Too late. The night before, I had already created a profile on a dating app. Messages started pouring in.
— “It’s over, Jack.”
The next day, I packed my bags and left. Soon after, I filed for divorce.
From what I’ve heard, even Claire no longer answers his calls.
The moral?
If Jack wanted to impose his rules, he quickly discovered that I also knew how to set some… and that mine could change everything.
