😱💔 Élodie gently pushed open the front door, taking care not to make a sound so she wouldn’t disturb her ailing mother-in-law’s sleep… But when she caught sight of her seven-year-old daughter kneeling beside the bed, a pair of scissors in her hands, she felt as though her heart had stopped beating…
For almost a year, Élodie had been looking after Jasmine, her mother-in-law.
After suffering a stroke, the seventy-two-year-old woman had been forced to move in with her son and his family. She could still walk short distances, but everyday tasks had become difficult. She needed help bathing, getting dressed, and even preparing her meals.
Despite her exhaustion, Élodie never complained.
She worked as a nurse at a private clinic, took care of her seven-year-old daughter, Chloé, and spent much of her evenings looking after Jasmine.
Her husband, Antoine, ran a construction company and often came home late.
“My mother is really lucky to have you,” he would tell her regularly.
However, over the past few weeks, Élodie had noticed a worrying change in her daughter.
Chloé, who was usually so cheerful, had become withdrawn.
She barely wanted to spend time with her friends anymore, refused to sleep alone, and burst into tears whenever her mother mentioned leaving her with her grandmother for a few hours.
One evening, Élodie sat beside her and gently stroked her hair.
“Tell me, sweetheart, what’s troubling you?”
The little girl immediately lowered her head.
“Nothing at all, Mommy.”
Élodie gently pressed her.
“Has Grandma done anything to make you sad?”
Chloé quickly shook her head, reacting with such haste that her mother immediately became suspicious.
Élodie sensed that something was wrong, but she couldn’t figure out what it was.
Then came that Thursday afternoon that would change everything.
At the clinic, several patients had canceled their appointments. Her supervisor therefore offered to let her finish her shift three hours earlier than planned.
Delighted to be able to get home early, Élodie stopped at a bakery to buy the cherry tarts Jasmine loved so much.
A few minutes later, she arrived home.
She gently turned the doorknob and tiptoed inside. Since her mother-in-law usually rested after lunch, she wanted to avoid waking her.
But as she approached the bedroom, she heard a small, trembling voice.
“Please, Grandma… I’m begging you, I don’t want to do it anymore.”
Élodie stopped dead in the hallway.
Her heart began pounding furiously.
Why was her daughter begging her grandmother like that? And, more importantly, what was she being asked to do?
Suddenly, Jasmine spoke…
The words that followed would reveal a reality far more terrifying than Élodie could ever have imagined.

Élodie froze when she heard Jasmine’s response.
“Stop crying! Your mother must never find out what you’re doing. Do you understand me?”
A shiver ran down Élodie’s spine. She abruptly pushed open the bedroom door and discovered a scene that left her breathless.
Chloé was kneeling beside the bed, a pair of scissors trembling in her little hands. Scattered around her were several pieces of Élodie’s clothing, cut into shreds: her favorite blue dress, her nursing uniform, and even the silk blouse her late mother had given her.
“Chloé! What are you doing?”
The little girl dropped the scissors and rushed into her mother’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Jasmine immediately put on an indignant expression.
“Thank goodness you’re home! Chloé destroyed your clothes, and I couldn’t stop her!”
Élodie held her daughter tightly. The little girl was trembling with fear.
“Sweetheart, tell me what happened.”
Chloé cast a worried glance toward her grandmother, then looked at a small black notebook lying beside the pillow.
Élodie picked it up.
“Give that back to me!” Jasmine shouted, suddenly reaching out her arm.
Surprised by her reaction, Élodie opened the notebook. Several dates were written inside, accompanied by disturbing instructions: break a vase, hide her wedding ring, tear up family photographs…
On the last page, she discovered a sentence:
“Thursday: Cut up Mommy’s clothes.”
A check mark confirmed that the task had been completed.
“Did you ask her to do this?”
Chloé burst into tears.
“Grandma said Daddy would kick you out if I didn’t obey her! She said he wanted a new mommy for me… Aunt Isabella!”
Élodie felt her heart shatter.
Isabella was Antoine’s former girlfriend, who regularly visited Jasmine.
“She promised me a bicycle if I helped her,” Chloé whispered.
Jasmine’s face hardened.
“You were never good enough for my son. Isabella, on the other hand, deserves this family.”
“And what about my daughter?” Élodie asked, devastated.
“Children always learn to adapt.”
That evening, Élodie realized that protecting Chloé had to come first.
She left the little girl with her sister for the weekend, then installed a camera in the living room.
Two days later, Isabella came to visit Jasmine. The recording revealed their true plan.
“This is taking far too long,” Isabella sighed.
“Be patient,” Jasmine replied. “Élodie will eventually lose her temper with Chloé. Antoine will believe she’s incapable of being a good mother and will file for divorce.”
“And what about the house?”
“It will belong to my son again. After that, you can move in.”
Élodie watched the video in utter disbelief.
They wanted to destroy her marriage and take away the house she had inherited from her parents.
That very evening, she confronted Antoine and showed him the evidence.
At first, he was horrified. But when he saw Isabella on the screen, he eventually looked away.
“You knew?” Élodie asked.
After a long silence, he admitted that his mother had led him to believe Élodie was becoming psychologically unstable.
But when Élodie asked whether he knew about Isabella’s intentions, he remained silent.
His answer was enough.
“Get out of my house, Antoine.”
The following day, he left with Jasmine.
Isabella never moved into the house.
Élodie filed for divorce and began helping Chloé recover from the ordeal.
A few weeks later, she discovered a drawing hidden inside her daughter’s pillowcase.
It showed two houses: in one stood her mother; in the other stood her father, her grandmother, and Isabella wearing a wedding dress.
Beneath the drawing, Chloé had written in her clumsy handwriting:
“If I’m a good little girl, maybe Mommy and Daddy will stay together.”
Élodie burst into tears.
“Mommy, are you mad at me?” Chloé asked.
She gently gathered her daughter into her arms.
“Never, sweetheart. Clothes can be replaced. But no one has the right to make you believe that you have to hurt others to be loved.”
Chloé buried her face against her mother.
For the first time in months, she smiled again.
At last, she had begun to understand an essential truth: her mother’s love had never been something she had to earn.
