“Could you dance with me? 😉 My ex is watching…” She didn’t know he was a billionaire… and her boss 😱😮
The chandeliers of the Grand Meridian bathed the gala in golden light. Everything seemed more elegant, almost unreal. Olivia Mitchell adjusted her emerald green dress, trying to calm her racing heart.
Then she saw him. Ryan. Her ex. The man who had spent months undermining her confidence, making her believe she wasn’t “cut out” for the corporate world. He laughed, confident, flawless in his tuxedo. As if nothing had ever happened.
— Breathe… she whispered to herself, clutching her champagne glass.
Tonight was supposed to be a victory. After years of hard work, Olivia had just been appointed Marketing Director at Archer Industries, one of New York’s most influential companies. Her first official appearance. She wanted to shine. Not relive the past.
— You look like you’ve seen a ghost, whispered Mia, her best friend.
— Worse. Ryan is here.
Mia rolled her eyes.
— The same Ryan who told you you were too sensitive to succeed?
— The one and only… and he’s talking to a board member.
The music changed. Faster, more rhythmic. Couples flooded the dance floor.
Ryan excused himself and walked straight toward her.
Panic surged. Without thinking, Olivia turned to the tall, dark, elegant man standing nearby, calmly observing the crowd. She leaned in and whispered, heart pounding:
— Would you dance with me? My ex is watching… please.
The man turned. His blue eyes struck her like lightning. A brief silence, followed by a subtle smile.
— It would be an honor. He held out his hand.
As they stepped onto the dance floor, Olivia caught Ryan’s unsettled gaze. A shiver of satisfaction ran through her.
— Thank you… I’m Olivia.
— James, he replied simply, placing his hand on her waist.
He danced perfectly, confident, natural, and irresistibly charismatic. Far too at ease for a mere stranger. Olivia didn’t know yet… But the man she had just chosen to escape her past was about to turn her entire future upside down.

The music enveloped them, soft and intoxicating. Olivia tried to focus on the rhythm, but James’ presence distracted her completely. His hand on her waist was firm but not possessive, reassuring. She found herself breathing more freely.
— Are you alright? he asked quietly.
— Yes… I think so, she replied with a nervous smile. Thank you for agreeing.
— Exes ruining gala nights are an underrated plague, he joked.
She laughed despite herself. A real laugh. It had been a long time.
Turning, she caught Ryan’s gaze. His smug smile was gone. He was watching them intently, visibly unsettled. Olivia straightened her shoulders. For the first time in months, she felt… capable.
— Your ex seems very interested in our choreography, James remarked.

— Good. Let him choke on his ego.
James smiled, amused.
— I like your spirit.
They continued to dance, gliding effortlessly among the couples. Around them, whispers spread. Olivia felt curious, almost admiring eyes on them. Who was this man? And why did he seem so… important?
The music ended to a round of applause. James didn’t let go immediately. Too close. Much too close to be ignored.
— Which company do you work for? he asked.
— Archer Industries. I’m… the Marketing Director, recently appointed.
— Congratulations, he said sincerely. That position isn’t given to just anyone.
Before she could respond, a male voice interrupted.
— Olivia? I didn’t know you knew James Carter.
She froze. James Carter.
The man speaking—a board member—looked at them with obvious respect.
— James is the majority shareholder of Archer Industries, he continued. And our CEO.
The world seemed to tilt. Olivia slowly turned to James, heart pounding.
— Your… CEO?
He looked at her, clearly amused by her expression.
— I was going to tell you. But you seemed like you needed an ally tonight.
A few meters away, Ryan had gone pale.
Olivia realized one essential thing: This evening had just taken a completely unexpected turn. And her professional—and personal—life would never be the same again.
