Instead of throwing away our old armchair, we decided to give it a makeover! Regularly decluttering is essential, especially if an item hasnāt been used in over two years. But sometimes, a second life is possible.
Looking at this armchair, we noticed it was still in good overall condition, except for the upholstery, which had taken quite a beating. Our cats had definitely left their mark, and it was impossible to get rid of it! So, it was decided: we were going to give it a fresh new look.
We began by carefully disassembling it, removing the old fabric, which we could later use as a template. Then, we took off the foam and straps, photographing each step to make the reassembly easier. Only one wooden leg showed signs of weakness: we repaired it with tape and let it dry for 24 hours.
During this time, we replaced the seat support with strong straps. I used a furniture sling, which required about 16 meters to ensure durability and comfort. Next, we recreated the seat by layering foam and synthetic padding. The old fabric served as our pattern, but since the foam was thicker, we adjusted the dimensions.
Mom chose a geometric-patterned fabric, which made the process more complex, especially for the armrests, but I managed to rise to the challenge. We then took care of the wooden parts: after sanding and treating them, we enhanced them with an oil and walnut-colored wax finish, bringing out the natural beauty of the beech wood.
