A Son Places His 80-Year-Old Mother in a Retirement Home, but Years Later He Can’t Find Her Anymore
When Louise, at the age of 82, lost the use of her legs and had to rely on a wheelchair, her son Marc decided to place her in a specialized care facility.
Many years later, Marc bitterly regretted this decision when fate placed him in a similar situation. Wanting to make amends for his mistakes, he went back to find his mother… but she was no longer there.

Marc Dupuis had been raised solely by his mother, Louise, after the untimely death of his father when Marc was only five years old. Louise had had Marc later in life, and had always protected and cherished him, sacrificing much to give him the best life possible.
Marc deeply loved his mother, always staying close to her. But everything changed when he met Sophie Lambert at university.
Quickly, Sophie encouraged him to move in with her, and thanks to their combined savings, they bought a modest apartment. After a few years living together and once they got married, Sophie suggested they move back in with Marc’s mother, claiming it would help them save for a future house. Marc hesitated, but agreed, thinking it would also give him a chance to take better care of Louise.
Three years later, their son Lucas was born. Sophie then pushed all the household chores onto Louise, claiming she was too busy with the baby, even leaving Lucas in her care so she could go out.
Louise suffered in silence but eventually confided in Marc. Sophie, however, skillfully manipulated Marc, and in the end, Louise was the one apologizing.
Over the years, Sophie gradually distanced Marc from his mother, accusing Louise of negligence and claiming she had become a burden. When Louise ended up in a wheelchair, Sophie insisted she be sent to a care home. Marc resisted, unwilling to abandon the woman who had raised him.
Tensions rose until one day, everything changed. Pregnant with their second child, Sophie fell ill and accused Louise of being to blame. Under pressure and worried for his family, Marc gave in.
— Mom… he said one evening, I think it would be better for you to be surrounded by professionals. It’s safer for you, for all of us.
Heartbroken, Louise agreed without argument.
Marc promised he would visit her. But caught up in the whirlwind of his life, he failed to keep his promise. The years went by, their second child was born, and Marc forgot about his mother. Three years later, his world collapsed: he discovered Sophie was having an affair with his best friend. She filed for divorce, took their house, and kept the children away from him.
Devastated, Marc thought back to the mother he had abandoned. Consumed by guilt, he went to the retirement home… only to find she hadn’t lived there for two years.
— She left with Mr. André, our former gardener, the receptionist explained. They got married. She often talked about her son she hadn’t seen again.
In shock, Marc followed the address left by the facility. He found a small house surrounded by fields. Louise opened the door, her face calm and serene.
— Marc? Is it really you?
Moved, he lowered his gaze.
— I’m sorry, Mom… I was unfair, I let you down. Now I understand your pain… I have nothing left.
— Oh, my dear… I forgave you a long time ago. Don’t carry that burden anymore.
She held him in her arms.
Later, Marc met André, thanked him, and bought a house nearby. A few months later, he organized a beautiful seaside celebration for them. That day, he met Julie — a woman who accepted Marc with his story and also grew fond of Louise and André. Together, they built a close-knit, reconciled family.
