Finnish wildlife photographer Lassi Rautiainen, 56, managed to capture a unique couple of friends in the forests of northern Finland – a young male bear and a she-wolf.
According to the photographer, the animals were regularly seen together and did not show any aggression towards each other.
On the contrary, several times they shared a meal in the form of a deer carcass.
This is rather unusual, as bears and wolves are competitive predators and cannot stand each other.
Lassi watched the couple for ten days.
According to him, he does not know under what circumstances they could be so friendly, but suggests that this happened when both were still very young and joint hunting helped them both survive.
Lassi is not aware of other similar cases, at least in Europe.
In zoos, you can sometimes see how cubs of representatives of different species are friends with each other.
In the wild, this phenomenon is not observed, but after all, there are exceptions to all rules.
