The actor recently expressed his desire to live in another country.
Richard Gere sold his stunning estate in Pound Ridge, Connecticut, for $10.75 million, slightly less than the $10.8 million he paid in 2022 to acquire it from musician Paul Simon.
This 32-hectare estate includes a main house built in 1938 with six bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, a three-bedroom guest house, a pool, and landscaped gardens. Surrounded by nature, the property offers privacy and luxurious comfort, reflecting the actor’s preference for peaceful and secluded locations.
This sale aligns with a broader life project: Richard Gere and his family plan to move to Spain, where his wife, Alexandra Silva, has deep family roots. This move reflects their desire for a calmer, family-oriented lifestyle, away from Hollywood’s hustle and bustle.
Gere and Silva have been based in the U.S. since their marriage in 2018. However, in an interview with Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024, he stated his wish to spend more time in Spain, his wife Silva’s homeland. He admires his 41-year-old spouse greatly and wants her to be closer to her family.
“It will be great for Alexandra to reconnect with her family, friends, and culture,” the star explained. “She has been incredibly kind to let me live in my world for six years, so now it’s only fair to give her six years to live in hers.” Madrid, he added, will be “a fantastic experience” for him, Silva, and their two sons, Alexander, five, and James, four.
Gere also has a 24-year-old son, Homer, from his second marriage to Carey Lowell. Silva, on her side, has an 11-year-old son, Alberto, from her previous marriage to Govind Friedland.
“I am deeply attached to Spain and how Spaniards live. They radiate joy and happiness,” Gere said in an interview with CNN.
Gere also mentioned in an interview with Vanity Fair that he has a home near New York, indicating he will likely maintain a presence in the U.S. According to an anonymous source, the couple first met in 2014 at the Treville Hotel in Positano, Italy.
Sources close to the couple told PEOPLE magazine that they were very happy during their wedding and added, “They are very comfortable together, have fun, and look forward to the future.”
In August 2024, Silva posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to mark Gere’s 75th birthday. “After wonderful years together, it still feels like the day of our first meeting,” she said.
“Our life, the amazing family we’ve built, and the moments we’ve shared surpass everything I could have imagined. You make my life better in every way, and I’m deeply grateful to you.”
