Every owner of a dog should know how to regulate the hunger of their pets, as they are able to eat anything they see, regardless it’s edible or not. Only the owners are in charge of having a healthy or overweight dog.

They should learn how to say no to their beloved companions, though it seems to be hard. But it’s also their choice of having healthy or unhealthy pet, as in the case of Kai, an overweight Golden retriever, who had difficulties even to move because of his owners’ wrong upbringing and intervention.

When Kai’s weight reached up to 173 lbs, his owners were confused and didn’t know what to do, how to act. The dog was not able to walk or to play, he had to sit or lay all the time. After all, they decided to bring their dog to the vet demanding to put him down.

But the vet refused to do that. He found another solution for the poor dog, giving him to the Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue. Soon Kai was adopted by a kind  and brave woman Pam Heggie, who did an enormous effort to bring Kai back to a normal life.

Pam was a big animal lover, who already had several rescued dogs at her home, so she had a big experience how to deal with dogs. She was sure that Kai would be able to loss his weight with the help of a vet and a water therapy program.

Though Pam knew she would have difficulties during the recovery period, especially to transport the heavy dog from her house to the vet, but she had enough patience and strength to overcome all this challenges.
