You don’t have to be a profiler to figure out who is the leader in the Sussex family and who is the follower. The Duchess always knows what she needs, and takes initiatives of various sizes. But Harry now and then adapts to his wife.
In his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, royal columnist and journalist Valentine Lowe revealed that the actress gave her husband-to-be a tough ultimatum even before the wedding.
Megan told Harry that she would leave him if he continued to hide their relationship.
“The source said: “She warned: ‘If you don’t make an official statement confirming that I am your girlfriend, I will break up with you.’” Harry was in a panic,” the book states.
According to another insider, the prince was beside himself with overwhelming feelings and kept repeating that his beloved was going to leave him.
Ultimately, he turned to Jason Knauf, public relations secretary for Kensington Palace, for help.
“Harry called Knauf and asked him to release a statement stating that Meghan is his girlfriend. Markle wanted public confirmation of the seriousness of their relationship. She was convinced that the palace was unwilling to protect her from media attacks,” Lowe writes.
He also claims that although Meghan enjoyed being the center of attention, she didn’t understand the point of all those going out, shaking hands and talking to strangers.
“According to several employees, at least once they heard Markle say: ‘I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this,’” his book says.
