“In the countryside train, a stranger entrusted me with two children before disappearing; Sixteen years later, I received a letter from her — accompanied by the keys to a majestic estate and an unimaginable fortune…”
That day, the sky wept without pause. Under the fine rain, the train shuddered to life with a hiss of steam and metal. On the deserted platform, the conductor frowned at the sight of Alina, soaked to the bone.
— In this weather? And alone?
— To Velmor, last carriage, she replied, struggling to lift her heavy bags.
The wheels screeched, and the train gained speed. Behind the window, the landscape blurred into curtains of water: waterlogged fields, wind-bent mills, a few cottages leaning under low-hanging clouds.
Exhausted, Alina sank onto the bench. The day had drained her: endless errands, long queues, the weight of the bags… and that heavy, clinging fatigue born from a sleepless night.
Three years of marriage, yet no children. Her husband, Tomas, blamed her for nothing, but doubt had carved a chasm in her heart.
That very morning, he had held her in his arms:
— Don’t lose hope, my dear. Our miracle will come.
His words had warmed her like a cup of hot herbal tea on a stormy evening. Tomas had arrived here as a young beekeeper, falling in love with the land… and with her. Today, he ran a small farm, while she cooked at the village cafeteria.
A door creak pulled her from her thoughts. A figure entered the aisle: a woman draped in a long dark coat, the hood pulled over her face. In her arms, two small bundles — infants. Their peaceful faces barely visible beneath the blankets.
— May I sit? she asked in a soft voice.
— Of course, replied Alina, moving aside.
The mysterious passenger sat down, gently rocking the children. One of them whimpered.
— Shh, my treasure… it’s all right, she whispered.
— They’re adorable. Two boys? asked Alina.
— A boy and a girl. Lior and Mira. They’ll be one soon.
A pang gripped Alina’s heart. She had dreamed of having a child of her own, but life had chosen a different path.
To break the silence, she dared ask:
— You’re going to Velmor too?
No answer. The woman stared at the rain, lost in gray reflections.
Minutes stretched. Then, suddenly, her voice returned:
— Do you have a family?
— A husband, replied Alina, absently caressing her wedding ring.
— Does he love you?
— More than anything.
— And children?
— Not yet… but I dream of them every day.
A sigh. Then, in a hurried whisper:
— I can’t explain everything, she said, her voice trembling. But you… you’re not like the others. I’m being followed. These children… they’re in danger.

Before Alina could react, the train slowed with a sharp screech. A tiny station appeared, shrouded in mist. The woman glanced quickly out the window, her eyes filled with anxiety.
— They’re coming… she murmured. I don’t have much time.
She leaned toward Alina, trembling hands holding the two bundles.
— Take them. I beg you. Keep them safe. Everything you need to know is here.
From her pocket, she pulled a sealed envelope and a small silver key.
— When the time comes, you will understand.
— But… wait! Who are you? Where are you going?
The woman gave a sad smile.
— Just tell them I love them. More than my own life.
Then she stood abruptly. Before Alina could find words, the mysterious stranger had vanished into the aisle, swallowed by the rain and the crowd on the platform.
The signal sounded. The doors closed. The train moved on.
Heart pounding, Alina lowered her eyes. Two peaceful faces stared up at her, unaware of the turmoil around them. A gentle warmth filled her heart.
Without knowing why, she held them close, as if destiny had just drawn a new path.
When she returned to the farm, Tomas was speechless. He read the truth in her eyes: these children were now theirs.
And for sixteen years, this secret slept, sealed in a yellowed envelope…
Until the day the postman delivered a letter to Alina, stamped with a golden seal.
Inside, a few trembling lines:
“If you are reading this, the danger has passed.
Thank you for watching over Lior and Mira.
In the town of Gravencourt, the key I entrusted to you opens the doors of the Valdoré estate.
Everything within belongs to them — the inheritance of their true family.
Forgive my silences.
I paid the price of secrecy, but thanks to you, they are free.”
Alina felt her hands tremble. The past, which she thought buried, had just knocked on the door…
