The pictures were taken in a suburb of Melbourne in Australia last year, but Tobias decided to share them just now – just at the time when people need encouraging news.

According to him, in order to take photographs, he spent three nights in a penguin colony.

“These two penguins stood for hours on the rock, holding their flippers, and looked at the Melbourne skyline, merging with the ocean line and flickering lights.

Since then, they meet regularly and console each other,” writes Tobias.

The way these two penguins behaved and looked after each other stood out from the rest of the colony.

The rest of the penguins slept or ran, but the surrounding bustle seemed to cease to exist for these two – they just held on to their flippers and looked into the distance.

“Love is the only game in which we win, even when we lose,” writes the photographer.

“Pain brought them together. You find love when you least expect it.”
