Chris and Collin Otkasek, a young Californian couple, thought they had simply found a beautiful home, with a large, well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room, and a huge walk-in closet.
However, the real estate agent shared an unexpected detail: a concrete entry in the garden hid a Cold War-era fallout shelter.
Inside it were incredible items: vintage coffee makers, rolls of 1940s paper towels, and weeks’ worth of supplies.
This place, stocked with food, water, and an air filtration system, was built in 1961 by nuclear engineer Elvin Kaufman to protect his family from the risks of the time.
