A life on a bus: a couple transforms an old vehicle into a dream tiny home
“They live in a 1977 bus—and the inside is GORGEOUS!” 😲🚌
It all began when they got their hands on a 1977 California Crown bus. Drawn to its rounded lines and retro look, they saw it as the perfect base for their dream of mobile living.
The challenge was huge. With its curved shape, the vehicle posed some unique constraints. The entire project, carried out with love, took 18 months to complete.
“That’s three to four times longer than we expected,” Erika says, laughing. “Nobody tells you how demanding it is to turn a bus into a home.”
Thankfully, they weren’t alone. The online “skoolie” community, with its countless resources and YouTube videos, offered tremendous support throughout the process.
Today, their 11-meter-long bus is a warm, colorful living space where Erika’s interior design talent shines. Thanks to her attention to detail, she created a bright, functional, and charming interior.
They kept the authentic front of the bus to preserve the vintage feel that was dear to them. The kitchen, although compact, is a small masterpiece of practicality: a U-shaped countertop made of reclaimed wood, a clever fold-out shelf… everything is designed to combine beauty and function.
The cozy living room is lined with built-in bookshelves framing two windows. A comfy couch hides a storage space, while ottomans double as extra seating.
Finally, nestled between the living area and the bedroom is a sleek, modern bathroom. With its floor-to-ceiling tiled shower, waterproof PVC vanity, and even a discreetly integrated outlet, it reflects the meticulous attention given to every detail.
