In the town of Sulphur (Louisiana), a ceremony was held to honor the ten-year-old Jaydan Fontenot. The boy, whom the mayor proclaimed a hero, was given symbolic keys to the city and a corresponding diploma confirming his extraordinary act.
If not for Jaydan, his mother Ashley and younger brother Dax would not be alive today.
Ashley Moreau, 36, who was 34 weeks pregnant, went into labor prematurely.
The woman went to the toilet when her water suddenly broke. And Ashley saw with horror that her baby’s legs had already come out.
There was no one at home except Jaydan.
Moreau’s husband had already left for work. Rushing to his mother’s cry, the boy immediately assessed the situation.
He rushed to run to his grandmother, who lived in a neighboring house. Grandma called the emergency services, but she was unable to help Ashley by herself.
Then Jaydan hurried back to Ashley, who was lying on the floor.
Keeping complete composure, he said, “Okay, Mom. Just tell me what to do.”
“He did not seem scared, he looked calm and acted bravely. I said, “I will tell you what to do. You need to pull your brother out. And as quickly as possible, because he is in the wrong position and cannot breathe,”” Ashley Moreau recalls.
“I was in shock and panicked, crying… But he was so calm that, looking at him, I myself calmed down a little… I saw that he was scared, but he just knew that he had to do it,” she adds.
Following the mother’s instructions, Jaydan gently turned the baby around and pulled it out, taking it by the legs.
Seeing that the child was not breathing, the boy, quickly realizing what to do, rushed to the kitchen and grabbed his 11-month-old sister’s nasal aspirator.
With its help, the boy cleared the baby’s nose and, pumping air into his lungs, gave him the opportunity to take his first breath.
By this time, doctors had already arrived, who took the woman and the newborn to the hospital. At present, mother, and child are in perfect health.
According to the doctors, if Jaydan had not been around and if he had become confused in a stressful situation, his brother would not be able to live. As well as his mother.
“I am so proud of him. He saved our lives,” Ashley says of her eldest son.
