Meet Ellie, a little baby elephant, who was refused by his herd because of a chronic sickness. He had no chance to survive all alone in the wild.

Fortunately, the volunteers of the Rhino Orphanage rescued him and brought the poor baby to the sanctuary in Zululand, where he received a special attention and care.

Though the orphanage was  focused on caring rhinos, Ellie was not turned away, even more, the staff did their best to invent a new milk formula, as he had allergy of any kind of milk.

They used well-cooked rice and added minerals and proteins. So, Ellie slowly gained weight and strength, he recovered from his illness, but one thing was anyway missing. He was very alone.

Ellie faced psychological issues having no opportunity to interact with his elephant family.

The staff didn’t know how to help the poor creature with his social needs.

But the support was very close. It was a former service dog, named Duma, who saved the sad elephant from his sorrow. Rejected by his herd sick baby elephant found comfort and high spirit in former service dog

As soon as Duma arrived, they formed immediately a new friendship and became inseparable.

They were playing on the sand pile and liked to chase each other.

Ellie became cheerful and looked very happy. He found comfort in his new friend. Duma helped him to overcome his sorrow and loneliness.

Will Ellie be re introduced back into the herd – or will he stay with his present home for the rest of his life? I was surprised to read that Ellie had been rejected by the herd – thank you for taking care of him and bringing him back to a healthy life again. He is very precious and great that he found a friend in Duma.

What was Ellie sick with that was chronic? Maybe the herd thought her illness would infect them all? Now that’s she’s better can she be returned to her family to see if they will take care of her now?

I’m feel so heart warming to find how so many people care for all different kinds of animals. Yes my favorite is elephants. Always has been. The care and love and time spent around the clock. These people are so much more. Sent from a higher power. What they can’t do for them selves, they have beautiful caring loving people who truly care. I love animals of all kinds. To frogs, lizard,,dogs cats. As a child I was always finding strays and bringing them home. And my mother will always allow me to keep them to help them to give them a good home. I this pull towards broken animals. They need love to. And to have these sanctuary’s around the world to help these animals become rehabilitated back into the wild is absolutely beautiful.
