Jo Ann Asseri’s life has been shaped by dramatic incidents that deeply affected her. In 1993, her home in Benoit, Mississippi, was destroyed, leaving her and her two children homeless.
The situation worsened with the sudden death of her husband, robbing the family of both a home and financial security.
Jo Ann needed to find shelter quickly, but her financial resources were limited. Initially, she thought of getting a trailer as a temporary solution, but even that was beyond her means.
That’s when her father-in-law, Bob, an air traffic controller, came up with a crazy idea: to repurpose an old airplane as a home.
Intrigued by the idea, Jo Ann jumped into action. The restoration and renovation of the old airplane cost around $30,000—still far cheaper than buying a conventional home.
The airplane was perfect: 4 meters wide with 76 windows, offering a spacious and comfortable living environment.
Inside, Jo Ann created a cozy home with three large bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and even a laundry room. Equipped with a washing machine, dryer, telephone, and oven, life inside the airplane was as comfortable as it could get.
