Nathan had gotten up after hearing his dog Oscar barking insistently out in the street. When he went outside to see what was going on, he was stunned to find an abandoned baby lying next to his faithful dog. That baby would change his life forever.

Although he was a wealthy man, Nathan was known for his kindness and generosity. He lived a comfortable life until, three months earlier, he discovered his wife had been cheating on him with a close friend.
After this betrayal, Nathan divorced her. His ex-wife moved to another state with her lover. Despite the heartbreak, Nathan remained kind to others, though everyone could see he was lonely.

To break the solitude, Nathan adopted a puppy—Oscar.
“At least you’ll never betray me,” he said, a sad smile on his lips.

Busy with work, Nathan had Oscar trained to be obedient and independent. Every afternoon, Oscar would go stretch his legs in the yard and come back on his own.

One day, as Nathan was watching a movie, he noticed Oscar hadn’t returned. Worried, he went outside. He heard barking in the distance and followed the sound to the road. There, he found Oscar sitting next to a baby lying on the grass.

“The poor thing…” he murmured, shocked that a baby could be abandoned like this. He looked for belongings, a clue, anything. But there was nothing except the basket and a note. The baby was crying. “Don’t look for her parents. This child is now yours. Take care of her.”

Before going home, he stopped to buy infant formula, diapers, and some clothes. Once home, he fed and changed the baby, then called the police.

“This baby was alone outside. No adults nearby. I had no choice but to bring her in,” he explained to the officers.

The authorities said they would review surveillance footage to try and find the parents. In the meantime, the child had to be placed with a foster family.

Nathan made an immediate decision.
“I can be her guardian. I work from home, I can take care of her.”
After a quick background check, he was granted temporary custody.

Weeks passed. Nathan cared for the little girl with tenderness and dedication. When her biological parents remained untraceable, she was put up for adoption. Nathan immediately started the paperwork to adopt her permanently. He named her Anna, in honor of his own mother who had raised him alone.

Anna became his daughter. He showered her with love, protected her, and raised her in happiness. They shared everything—meals, park outings, games, and laughter.

At school, from the age of seven, teachers and parents began to notice how much she looked like him. Even her classmates said they looked “like twins.”

Nathan had never seen a difference between Anna and a biological child. He smiled every time someone mentioned their resemblance.

One day, while she was playing in the yard with Oscar, Anna fell and slightly injured her head. While cleaning the wound, Nathan noticed something surprising.

“Look, Anna… we have the exact same birthmark,” he said, stunned. He had never seen it before, hidden under her hair.

“We were meant to be together, daddy,” she whispered, wiping away her tears.

Curious, Nathan ordered a DNA test. He sent in a hair sample from Anna and from himself. Three weeks later, the results arrived. The verdict: 99.9% match.

Nathan couldn’t believe his eyes. He had always been faithful—and now realized that his ex-wife must have been pregnant with his child when they separated.

He called her.
— “Why didn’t you ever tell me we had a daughter?”
— “Because I didn’t want to raise her. I never wanted to see you again. I knew you’d find her eventually. Goodbye.”

She hung up. Nathan, overwhelmed, clutched the report to his chest. Anna was his daughter—biologically. But above all, she had always been his daughter in his heart.

“What’s wrong, daddy?” she asked.

“Nothing, sweetheart. I’m just really happy. Remember when I told you you were an angel sent from heaven, even if I wasn’t your real dad?”

She nodded.

“You are my real daddy. Never forget that,” she said, hugging him tightly.

“Yes, Anna. And this test proves it,” he said, handing her the document.

“I told you… we were meant to be together,” she whispered.

A few years later, Nathan found love again—at a school event for Anna. He married a kind-hearted teacher, and two years later, Anna became a big sister.

Today, Nathan lives surrounded by his family. He took early retirement to fully enjoy time with his children.
