Indeed, it’s always about treating others the way we’d like to be treated ourselves. But when we’re in a rush or distracted, we tend to forget to be polite.
So a café owner came up with the best solution for this kind of behavior. His humorous initiative was shared by Virginia public broadcaster WDBJ7.
Austin Simms is the owner of Cups Coffee&Tea in Roanoke, Virginia. He noticed that both he and his staff were often treated disrespectfully and that many of his customers lacked basic manners.
He decided it was time to put an end to it. After some thought, he came up with a solution: implement a brand-new pricing policy.
The idea was to educate customers and make them pay the price for their lack of respect. The ruder the behavior, the higher the cost.
To inform his customers of the new rule, he placed a sign at the entrance of his shop. The sign displayed three different phrases — each with a different price:
First, for the rudest: “One coffee” – €4.50
Then, with a bit more respect: “One coffee, please” – €2.50
Finally, if someone is polite and says, “Hello, one coffee, please” – just €1.50!
Within 24 hours of posting, the photo went viral around the world. A message that’s both funny and impactful. Nearly everyone who responded supported him and found the idea extraordinary because it was out of the ordinary!
