Des and Mona Monahan are an Irish couple who have been together for over 56 years. Des is 84 years old, and his wife is a year younger – she is 83.
Unfortunately, a disaster happened in their family: Mona began to lose her sight, and soon she would become completely blind. And therefore she could rely only on the help of her husband in everything.
Her left eye does not see anything. And today the woman is no longer able to do many things that are familiar to her, one of which is morning makeup.
When Mona’s eyesight was just beginning to fall, Des, at the request of his wife, only helped her fix her makeup.
But over time, the situation worsened, Mona could no longer do makeup on her own.
In addition, the woman’s hands began to shake, which made it simply impossible to hold the brushes.
Mona often cried from her helplessness. Therefore, in order to somehow support his beloved wife, Des decided to learn how to do her makeup.
One day, Des went to the local mall, where in the makeup department he told professional makeup artist Rosie O’Driscoll about what had happened in their family and why he wanted to learn how to do makeup.
This story touched Rosie very much, and she gladly agreed to help him.
For the whole 8 months, the woman taught Des the art of makeup: how to understand the brushes, consistently apply makeup and combine shades.
Now, the man knows how to hide flaws and emphasize the dignity of his wife.
According to Rosie, Des even developed certain preferences.
For example, he prefers to do the eyebrows not with shadows, but with a pencil. And if he doesn’t like how a particular shade of lipstick looks that Rosie advises, then he demands to change it.
Des thinks he knows best what suits his wife and what doesn’t.
In applying makeup, she and Mona adhere to the golden rule: less is more.
“He thinks I’m beautiful the way I am,” comments Mona. The woman is incredibly grateful to her husband, because it is thanks to him that she feels beautiful.
The heartfelt story of Des and Mona reached Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic.
He was touched by the act that Des went for for his beloved wife, and Mario invited the couple and makeup artist Rosie to his master class in London.
“This is such a big event for us! Professional makeup, Mario and Kardashians – all this was completely out of our life up to this point,” Mona shares her impressions.
The example of Des and Mona proves that true love can overcome any difficulties. After all, if you have each other, then there is always someone to rely on.
