But since when has she been obese?” “Justin Bieber was right to choose Hailey”, “I don’t understand how she can let herself go like that”, ”
I thought lupus was supposed to make you lose weight, not gain weight” : all these nasty comments have been addressed to Selena Gomez in recent days.
While the young singer and founder of Rare Beauty appeared in a magnificent white dress by Versace at the Sag Awards, she was once again the victim of fatphobia.
But, while the main interested party has not yet responded, many Internet users have rushed to defend her.
On no one to judge her physique, and even less to compare her to her ex’s wife.
With in particular an important reminder: the young woman has already spoken out about how the mockery of which she was the victim could harm her mental health.
Indeed, this is unfortunately not the first time that Selena Gomez has been a victim of fatphobia. In 2023, her appearance at the Golden Globes earned her a lot of criticism, to which she ended up reacting.
“I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues.
For me, that’s when I really started to notice more things about body image”, she explained during a live on social networks, specifying that the medication she had to take against the lupus from which she suffers caused fluctuations in her weight.
“I just wanted to say and encourage everyone who feels ashamed of what they’re going through and no one knows the real story. … I just want people to know that they are beautiful,” she said via the following.
More recently, she made it clear that she would never again look like she did during her teenage years. And that she was at peace with that idea.
I do not think she looks fat. She is beautiful. Yes, Lupus should cause you to loose weight. Kidney issues will cause her to retain fluid. Just about everybody these days has high blood pressure. Sounds like the medication she takes for Lupus is probably causing the kidney issues which is causing the fluid retention which is causing the weight gain. In other words if the disease doesn’t kill her the cure will. So knock it off people. I thought the Hollyweird crowd were the most accepting, tolerant, inclusive, people group on planet earth. Obviously NOT.
