Joao Stanganelli Jr. is an unusual Brazilian man. And not just because he knits. But because of what he knits. These are dolls, but not simple ones – “vitiligo dolls”.
This is exactly the disease of the 64-year-old Brazilian himself. Faced with all the social and psychological aspects of vitiligo, Joao decided to help others with his products.
Vitiligo is a skin pigmentation disorder that results in white patches appearing on the body. This does not affect health in any way, but can cause insecurities, especially when such spots cover the face and other visible parts of the body.
Our hero faced the disease 30 years ago, already in adulthood, but even he experienced discomfort.
What can we say about children who need to socialize and get used to themselves with vitiligo?
And when the Brazilian had more free time, he and his wife began to knit. At first, it was difficult for him, but now he can’t stop!
The first one was a doll for Joao’s granddaughter – just in memory of her grandfather. And then an idea was born.
Now the man knits “inclusive dolls,” which even include wheelchair toys, to make disabled children feel normal and valued, whatever their diagnosis may be.
And it’s wonderful!
