In Turkey, a man named Mert Akkok turned his own farm into an animal shelter.
It already houses 23 dogs, 3 cats, a blind horse, 46 wounded gulls, geese, a donkey and 3 sheep.
Mert Akkok decided to move from city to village in order to be able to open an animal shelter.
According to the man, this is his calling.
He searches for dogs in landfills, forests and countryside.
In addition, volunteers help him.
He tries to find new families for the animals, but most of them remain with him at the shelter.
“This is not my job and not the main thing in my life. I am a small business owner. I own and operate my company that provides medical services. I am a busy person. But I devote my free time to animals,” explained Mert Akkok.
“I have people on my farm. They are full-time workers who take care of my animal friends and household. But I don’t get any volunteer help or donations from anyone. I also don’t ask them for that.
I am economically well-off and can do it.” handle yourself and your expenses,” added Akkok.
