Stephani Williams created a non-profit organization Canines for Coping with two retrievers.
Together, they help people cope with stress and fear.
She takes the retrievers Orbit and Asteroid to the patients in various hospitals in Huntsville.
There, the dogs help people to recover, providing moral support and raising their spirits.
“They can help a mother who is about to break down due to stress and worries about a child, or a patient who is afraid of hearing bad news. These dogs take all the negative emotions that people experience and seem to take them away,” said the president said of Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Sarah Savage-Jones.
Dogs began visiting hospitals in 2019.
Since then, they have been able to help thousands of patients and healthcare workers.
Doctors specifically tracked the changes that occur to people after communicating with Orbit and Asteroid.
According to them, communication with dogs really improves the well-being of patients.
“Thanks to dogs, patients have less pain. They also want to get well as soon as possible. That is why they are more willing and bold to agree to go to even the most unpleasant medical procedures,” – said Sarah Savage-Jones.
This type of healing affects everyone’s life.
“For us, there is one greatest compliment from families. When, after a procedure or medical intervention, they say that they came to the hospital, thinking that their child is not going to meet medical requirements. However, thanks to the dogs, the child agreed and was successful,” said the owner of the dogs Stephani Williams.
