Covid ended up in a shelter in Texas after the owner abandoned him.

The dog had an ear infection.

The shelter in which the dog was placed is notorious: according to statistics, about 20-25 percent of the animals in it are euthanized.

But Covid was lucky: a married couple working on an animal rescue project drew attention to the dog.

Loretta, 48, of Gracie’s Project, said she had no plans to adopt such a dog at first. But she couldn’t resist.

“It’s not easy for Pitties in Texas right now because there are so many of them, they are difficult to adopt, difficult to move, but when I saw his face, I said:“ Oh God, we have to save him,”” Loretta laughs.

At the shelter, Covid got a new name: now his name is Carl. He also got rid of health problems.

And most importantly, he is a very cute dog!

“He’s just a big ol’ cuddle bug! He has almost 65 pounds of muscle and love. He loves to lie on your lap, kiss you and wag his tail,” admires the temporary owner.

Karl-Covid just blossomed!

And, although they are still looking for permanent owners, he is happy in a new place and receives as much attention as he wants.

At the height of the pandemic, articles about empty shelters appeared in the media.

Then people took animals to keep them company, and also to walk with them during the restrictions on movement.

But now life is returning to normal, people go to work and refuse pets.

“The number of animal surrenders in the last two months is astonishing, I have never seen anything like it. This is because all these people had pets when they were at home, and now they are returning them,” Loretta bitterly states.

Abandoned Covid was one of them, and, according to the temporary owner, she cannot understand how such a “big baby” could be given away.

Now she is looking for the best candidate for the role of Carl’s friend and companion, and perhaps soon he will move into his new home.
