Another Chinese teenager was able to return to his biological parents after he was kidnapped at the age of three more than 16 years ago.
Three unidentified men kidnapped a child from home and sold it to a childless couple living nearly 2,000 km away.
It was possible to find the kidnapped young man thanks to a nationwide DNA database.
The meeting of the young man and his parents took place in one of the villages of the Daguan urban district of Yunnan province.
According to the biological mother of the kidnapped young man, for all 16 years, the family did not give up hope of finding a child.
The young man grew up in a foster family living in Fujian province.
After they lost the father of the family in 2016, the mother informed the young man that he had been adopted.
The young man donated blood to a nationwide database in order to establish biological parents.
A year later, the relatives of the kidnapped were notified of the discovery of the young man they were looking for.
When asked by reporters about where he plans to live, the young man replied that he would spend the holidays with his biological parents in Yunnan. After which, he would return to his foster mother in Fujian in order to take care of her.
Previously, law enforcement officials from Hebei province managed to find the parents of six children who were kidnapped from their homes more than 20 years ago.
Since 2015, DNA tests have helped police find relatives for 23 kidnapped Chinese citizens.
