A couple from China had a girl with albinism. Deciding that she was too ugly, they left her in an orphanage.
However, the fate of the baby turned out quite differently. She became a bright model, despite the fact that her appearance has only one color.
Xueli Abbing lives in the Netherlands. A girl born with congenital albinism – a hereditary feature that manifests itself in the complete absence of melanin – the color pigment.
Biological parents did not leave any information about their baby, so she still does not know when her birthday is.
According to her, back in 2019, she had an X-ray of her hand to find out at least her approximate age. At that time, doctors assumed that she was 15 years old.
Xueli says: “After I was born, the Chinese authorities introduced the rule of having one child per mother. My appearance exacerbated my situation. Therefore, children like me were simply abandoned, locked up, or they dyed their hair black.”
When the baby was about 3 years old, she got lucky. She was adopted by a European family from the Netherlands.
At the age of 11, she first tried herself in the role of a model. And this opportunity fell to her quite by accident.
Xueli’s biological mother contacted a Hong Kong fashion designer, who launched a campaign called Perfect Flaws. It was the fashion show that launched her career.
Now she has become a successful girl and has already appeared on the pages of the Italian magazine Vogue 2019.
Now the girl enjoys her work. She is also sure that she is changing the world for the better by destroying stereotypes about people with the same feature as she has.
But also in the work of the model, where her extraordinary appearance is an advantage, Xueli faces various problems. She admitted that people with albinism are often forced to pretend to be angels and ghosts.
“Looking different from everyone else in the modeling business is a blessing, not a curse. This gave me a foundation to raise awareness of albinism. Tall and thin models have always been, are, and will be in the modeling business. But the situation has changed a bit. People with physical features have begun to appear in the media more regularly, and this is just wonderful, because, in fact, this is quite normal,” — says the young model.
