Cotton – that was the name of the kitten – was found on the street.
He looked terrifying: the animal had clearly starved for a long time, was bitten by parasites and covered with ulcers and crusts.
Cotton’s eyes were affected by demodicosis, and he could no longer open them. If he had not been found in time, he would have died soon – it is almost impossible for a blind cat to survive on the street.
But help came – in the person of Carmen Weinberg, founder and head of the Animal Friends Project, who took the animal under her care and immediately began treatment.
“Cotton didn’t see anything. The parasites bit his eyelids so badly that he simply could not open his eyes, says Carmen. – I can imagine how scared he was alone, without sight. He became very thin because he could not find food.”
After the cat was washed and fed, he was able to relax a bit and fall asleep peacefully.
For the first time in a long time, he did not suffer from constant itching.
“Cotton and others like him are in great need of help, but cannot ask for it. I’m sure people avoided the cat, seeing how bad he looked. And he was just waiting for someone to give him a chance.
The treatment worked, and Cotton quickly recovered.
And when he was finally able to open his eyes, the amazement of the shelter staff knew no bounds.
Despite the doctors’ predictions, the cat’s eyesight returned.
In addition, he turned out to be the owner of a rare appearance. One of his eyes turned out to be blue, and the second – green.
The white fur is now clean and smooth.
Carmen received many applications from those who wanted to take Cotton – now healthy and strong – to their home.
But during the treatment, she became so attached to the ward that she could not part with him.
And the cat himself did not get tired of expressing gratitude to his savior.
Carmen, who has been saving stray cats in South Florida for many years, urges people not to give up their animals.
“Any help is important,” she says. Many stray cats are very friendly. Take the animal to the veterinarian for the simplest medical care, or take it to your home to add one more happy animal to the world.”
