Just one day before Mother’s Day, the endangered Bornean orangutan gave birth to a baby.

On May 7, the Topeka Zoo broke the news that their Bornean orangutan, named Rudy, had given birth to a beautiful and healthy baby.

Both mother and the baby are doing great at the moment.

And the rest of their family, father and brother, look after them.

The photographs show how the baby trustingly and lovingly looks at his mother.

Rudy is looked after very closely by the zookeepers and given many treats.

This cute Mother’s Day story also turned out to be great news for the entire Bornean orangutan species.

They are on the verge of extinction due to the increase in palm oil production, which has led to the loss of habitat of these species.

Orangutans are also often poached.

These apes are some of the smartest animals on the planet.

Their DNA is 98% identical to human DNA. They also have the closest relationship between mother and baby.

We must do our best to protect this amazing animals.
