The authorities wanted to demolish the old houses, but the old man decided that this would not happen. The 94-year-old Taiwanese couldn’t think of anything better than decorating his village with various designs to draw attention to the problem.
Huang Yong-Fu was born in the 1920s. He moved to Taiwan about 40 years ago, he was given housing in one of the small villages.
One day, the locals were told that their settlement would be demolished and that everyone would be paid monetary compensation. All the villagers took the money and left.
However, Huang Yong-Fu had no intention of leaving his home. At some point in this village, he was completely alone.
Juan was bored by being alone. Once, going out into the street, he simply painted the wall of his house. Over time, new ones began to be added to this pattern. The old man also painted the houses of the departed neighbors.
Someone took a picture of the painted walls and posted it on the Internet.
Art connoisseurs and activists became interested in Huang’s works, who drew attention to the problem of this man.
The flow of tourists to the village has grown incredibly. Activists and students ensured that the settlement remained, and now it is considered one of the most interesting sights in Taiwan.
The village was called Rainbow, of course, because of its bright and unusual drawings. More than a million people visit it every year.
